Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz has been summoned to the Parliament's Committee on Oversight of the Security Forces for its ongoing parliamentary inquiry.

The Committee is conducting an inquiry into the security breach that led to the attack against the speaker of the parliament Mohamed Nasheed last month.

The parliament confirmed via Twitter that the committee had summoned ACP Riyaz for its inquiry and had questioned him at the closed-door hearing.

The committee has summoned several high-ranking officials in both the Police and the Maldives National Defence Force MNDF including the commissioner of Police Mohamed and Chief of Defence Force Abdullah Shamal.

It had yesterday questioned the Director-General of the National Counter Terrorism Center Brigadier General Zakaria Mansoor.

On Monday, the committee dubbed 241 Committee, in short, had denied reports that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his administration was exerting their influence on the committee inquiry.

Speaking to reporters, MP for Hithadhoo Uthuru Constituency and Chairman of the Parliament's Committee on Oversight of the Security Forces Mohamed Aslam said that the committee had not come across any attempts at an obstruction from the President or the government. MP Aslam said that he did not believe such attempts would even materialize.

MP Aslam went onto say that all the government agencies have so far been highly cooperative with the inquiry. He added that all the police officers and soldiers questioned had also given sufficient answers.
