Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would meet the media via a news conference today.

Mabrook said on Twitter that the President will hold the news conference at 04:00 pm today.

He also said that President Solih would discuss the latest measures and policy updates related to the national COVID-19 response.

The President had last met the media on 25, May 2021 with Health Minister Ahmed Naseem and TAG team official Dr. Nazla Musthafa accompanying him.

The President is expected to announce the new measures to be taken in the fight against the pandemic in the Maldives as the latest restrictive measures by the Health Protection Agency HPA would expire tomorrow.

These measures include the extension of curfew hours in the Greater Male' Area from 04:00 pm to 08:00 am for two weeks. It also includes requiring a police-issued pass to go out during non-curfew hours while the segregation of the area into two zones.

Male' and Villimale was declared one zone while Hulhumale' stood as its own zone and travel between zones was also restricted even with a permit.

The new measures had proved somewhat effective with daily COVID-19 numbers dropping below 1000 in the last few days.
