Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed has been summoned to the ongoing Parliamentary Inquiry by the Committee on Oversight of the Security Forces.

The Committee is conducting an inquiry into the security breach of speaker of the parliament Mohamed Nasheed prior to the failed assassination attempt against his last month.

The parliament also confirmed that the Commissioner is the first individual to be summoned to the committee's inquiry.

It had given summon notice to other police officers in addition to the Commissioner as the Police had said that individual officers would be allowed to answer the committee summon.

But the Maldives National Defense Force MNDF had said that individual Soldiers would not be attending committee hearings but the Military would be answering such summons as a whole.

Speaker Nasheed was targeted in an IED explosion earlier last month after the explosive was detonated just outside his house.

Police have arrested four individuals in relation to the case and believe that all four had affiliations to religious extremist groups.
