Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another COVID-19 death in the Maldives as authorities look to curb the rampant pandemic.
The Agency said via Twitter today that today at 02:35 pm an 84-year-old local woman admitted at HMF has passed away. HPA confirmed that this is the 171st death reported in the Maldives since April 2020.
Meanwhile, the Agency had confirmed 10 COVID deaths in the country on the first two days of the new month and the situation still remains precarious.
Last month had been the most fatal month in the country since the Maldives was hit with the pandemic last year. HPA had confirmed 88 COVID-19 deaths in the country, the highest monthly death toll recorded in the country.
Most of the individuals who had passed away due to COVID-19 are locals with few foreigners also succumbing to the illness in the country.
