Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 780 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Sunday as the country continues its fight against the raging pandemic.
HPA said via Twitter that out of the 780 new cases, 571 cases were confirmed from the greater Male' Area and that 205 new cases were reported from the inhabited islands.
HPA also confirmed 4 cases from resorts.
The new cases take the total COVID cases reported in the country to 63,638 with 39,314 recoveries.
The Agency also said that there are 24,205 active cases of COVID-19 in the country and that 218 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
The drop in daily cases is a welcome respite for the country struggling with its worst wave of the pandemic this month. A record number of positive cases have reported in May and a record number of COVID deaths have also been confirmed this month.
The high case rate had prompted authorities to take more restrictive measures in the Greater Male' Area as well as other islands in the country currently under monitoring.
The new measures include an extended curfew in the Greater Male' area from 04:00 pm to 08:00 am every day with residents banned from going outside without a police-issued pass during non-curfew hours.
