Police say the suspected arrested last night in relation to the May 6th terrorist attack against the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed had been remanded in custody.

Police had earlier confirmed that they had arrested 23-year-old Ahmed Fathih in an operation carried out in Baa Atoll Dharavandhoo and that he had been arrested in connection with the attack against Nasheed. But Police stopped short of stating his connection to the attack at this time.

Police said today that Fathih had been remanded in custody for 15 days by the court. He was transferred to Male' earlier after his COVID-19 test was completed by Police.

Nasheed was attacked after an IED strapped on a motorcycle parked on the street where he lived was detonated just as Nasheed had worked past the vehicle on his way to his own car.

Meanwhile, Police said in a news conference today that they had identified the suspect who placed the motorcycle at the site of the attack. Police also said that simultaneous counter-terrorism operations underway in Malé and Addu Cities.

Police had also said that five sites in the Malé area searched and that another search ongoing.

Police have arrested a total of four suspects in connection to the attack against Nasheed earlier this month.
