Alarming reports have surfaced today about a pistol being discovered at a toilet in ADK hospital while the Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed was under treatment at the hospital after the failed assassination attempt against him on May 6, 2021.

Sources have confirmed to "The Press" that the weapon had a silencer on it and that police had discovered that the weapon to be from the Maldives National Defense Force MNDF after probing the discovery.

At a news conference held by the Police today, Police were asked about the discovery of the weapon at the hospital but Police had declined to give a specific answer to the question by saying that they had not brought information about the specific incident to today's briefing.

Police had said that it was further probing these reports.

Nasheed had sought treatment at ADK hospital after he was severely injured in the attack against his person earlier this month when he was targeted just outside his house.

An IED strapped to a motorcycle parked on the street where the speaker lived had been detonated just as Nasheed had stepped near the vehicle to get into his car nearby had caused near-fatal injuries to the former President.

The speaker is now recuperating in Germany where he is seeking medical treatment from a military hospital in Berlin.
