The family of the speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed says they are now working to take the former president abroad for further treatment after he sustained life-threatening injuries in the assassination attempt on May 6th.

His family confirmed to local media that they were now working to take the former President to Germany for further treatment and that they would make the arrangements as soon as possible.

"The Press" was unable to confirm reports as it was not able to get in touch with the Speaker's family.

The Speaker was injured in a remote-controlled explosion last Thursday when assailants targeted him outside the speaker's residence in Male'.

The speaker and former President Nasheed had sustained serious injuries in the attack against his person with his medical team revealing that projectiles from the blast had pierced his lungs after fracturing through his fourth rib, narrowly missing his heart by a centimeter.

Five others were also injured in the attack including members of his security detail.

Police have so far arrested 3 individuals in relation to the attack including the prime suspect who had detonated the explosive device near the scene of the attack.
