The recently announced "3V" strategy to boost Maldivian tourism has garnered a positive response from the international media.

In an interview with CNBC, Tourism Minister Dr. Abdullah Mausoom said that Maldives was planning to give COVID vaccination to tourists when they arrive in the country for their vacations.

Minister Mausoom described as a "3V" strategy of "Visit, Vaccinate and Vacation" and said that the initiative would go into effect once the whole vaccination eligible population of the country.

He added that the date for the initiative would be announced later on.

The announcement had garnered a favorable response from the international media with several big outlets like Forbes and CNN reporting on the innovative initiative amid the global pandemic.

While the media reports have focused on the tourism boosting strategy, they have also mentioned other key initiatives undertaken by the Maldivian authorities to restabilize its main economy pillar after sustaining devastating repercussions last year.

This includes the Maldives Border Miles program introduced last year which comes as the world's first-ever destination loyalty program.

Earlier, Maldivian authorities have confirmed that travelers arriving in the Maldives, will not be required to produce a negative COVID-19 PCR-test certificate upon arrival and undergo mandatory quarantine if travelers have passed 2 weeks after full vaccination against the COVID-19 pandemic.
