Police have sent the names of four individuals to the Prosecutor general's Office for formal charging in relation to the killing of a 17-year-old boy in Gaafu Alifu Maamendhoo earlier this year.

Police said the investigation into the teenager's death had been completed and the four individuals were identified as culprits behind the gang-related murder of Ahmed Udhayyu.

It said this includes three men and a minor under 18 years of age and that police had sent their names to the PG office on the 10th of this month.

Udhayyu was killed when a fight broke out between two rival gangs in Maamendhoo last month after he sustained fatal injuries during the brawl.

Police sent his body to India to form a postmortem on the 15th of last month and was returned on the 18th of February after the medical examination.

The victim's brother also sustained serious injuries during the fight but is expected to make a full recovery.
