Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shamal says development of Uthuru Thila Falhu (UTF) will further bolster Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) capabilities

Chief stated this in a press conference held this afternoon along with the other General Officers on the Council of Generals addressed the issue of the leaked UTF agreement that went viral yesterday.

Chief said that the agreement signed between the Maldives and India on the february 21, 2020 would further enhance the operational capabilities of the defense forces and further bolster the operational capabilities of the Coastguard itself.

He said that the "signed agreement" is the final product of years of discussions on the matter and the talks on the agreement began back in 2013.

Major General Shamal said that the leaked document is a false document and had baseless facts that were far from the truth.

He urged the media and others not to spread fake and unverified news against the Forces. He also said that MNDF is looking into taking further actions against those who spread such lies.

Chief further assured that the UTF agreement was made with the recommendation of the Council of Generals and that the agreement does not jeopardize the national security and sovereignty of the country.
