Police said the opposition parties were given a heavier fine for repeatedly violating HPA guidelines and holding protests in the Male'.

All three parties had held political activities in the capital Male' over the weekend but police had faced criticism on the way how they had handled both the political activities.

Police had hindered the opposition's attempt to hold protests on Friday by closing down the PPM office, where opposition protesters usually gather to begin their rallies.

Social Media users were quick to point out that Police had allowed MDP to hold its political event which also garnered attention from their supporters in the Greater Male' Area.

HPA tightened its restrictive measures in the Greater Male Area' including banning the gathering of more than 5 people out in the public in the area.
