Health Minister Ahmed Naseem had hinted at quarantine-less travel if individuals complete the COVID-19 vaccination by getting the two doses of the vaccine.
Speaking on a program brought by 'Dhivehi Raaje ge Adu', the Minister said that in the coming months most of the countries across the world would require COVID vaccine verification and that the government is contemplating introducing a COVID vaccine passport within the next three months.
The Minister warned that traveling could become problematic without getting the COVID vaccine in the coming months and that some countries have already introduced vaccine green cards.
Minister Naseem said if an individual had completed both doses of the COVID vaccine, he/she can travel easily within the Maldives without having to quarantine at their destinations.
Under the current guidelines, all travelers from the Greater Male' Area to the Atolls must quarantine for 10 days.
The Minister also said that the government aims to complete the vaccination in islands with bigger populations. He noted that in cities like Addu, Fuvamulah, and Kulhudhufushi many have now been vaccinated.
Authorities in the Maldives are currently administering the covishield vaccine donated by India earlier this month.
Health Emergency Operation Center HEOC had said that the second dose of the covisheild vaccine would be administered 8 weeks after the first dose is given.
In the Maldives, a total of 145,768 people have been given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This includes 87,045 in the Greater Male' Area and 58,723 in the Atolls.
