Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that more than 100,000 people have been given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine covishield in the Maldives.
HPA had kicked-off the massive inoculation campaign earlier this month and reported last night that a total of 105,492 people have been given the first dose of the covishield vaccine in the Maldives.
HPA said that this includes 72,872 from the Greater Male' Area and 32, 620 from the Atolls.
HPA had said there are 7 vaccination centers and 2 mobile vaccination teams in the Greater Male' Area while 169 vaccination centers have been established in the Atolls.
Last week, HPA began giving the COVID-19 vaccine to all those above the age of 25 years and also urged caretakers of bedridden patients to get themselves vaccinated.
Meanwhile, Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC said that the second batch of the covishield vaccine donated by the Indian government had arrived in the Maldives earlier this month. HEOC said that the 100,000 doses of the COVID vaccine arrived in the Maldives on the 20th of this month.
This comes after the government had announced the donation from the neighboring India during the visit of the country's External Affairs Minister earlier this month.
