Police say a total of 5 individuals have now been arrested in relation to the gang violence that occurred in Gaafu Alifu Maamendhoo on Monday night, in which a teenager was fatally injured.

The brawl between two rival gangs resulted in the death of 17-year-old Ahmed Udhayu while his older brother also sustained injuries in the fight.

Police had said before that it had arrested 3 individuals in relation to the case a few hours after the incident and had reported today that it had arrested two more individuals yesterday. Police said that this includes a 28-year-old and an-18-year-old.

Meanwhile, Police had said that the court had extended the remand custody of all three arrested in relation to the case on Monday itself.

Police said while the court had sentenced that two of the individuals be held under remand custody for 15 more days, the third had been sentenced to be held under remand custody for 10 more days.

Yesterday, Police had said that it was working to send the body of the victim abroad for a postmortem to further aid the investigation into the fight that killed the teenager.

Police have yet to announce the reason for the fatal brawl between the gangs but Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed had said that the Serious Organised Crime Dept. of Crime Investigation Command has taken over the investigation of the incident and that it had now deployed a team to Maamendhoo.

He also urged the people of the island to give their cooperation to the Police in their investigation.
