President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a congratulatory message to Seychelles' new President-elect Wavel Ramkalaman, following his victory in the country's general elections.
In his message, President Solih said that as a Small Island State in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles and the Maldives share many common concerns and priorities, especially in the spheres of maritime safety, disaster resilience, and climate change.
He noted that the two countries have continued to constructively engage on these issues and voice them to the broader international community.
President Solih said that he was certain that the excellent level of cooperation between our two governments will continue under the new leadership.
President Solih also congratulated Vice President-elect Ahmed Afif for winning the country's general elections.
Afif is the third son of Abdullah Afif who had ruled the United States of Suvadheeb, a separate state formed within the Maldives that included Addu, Huvadhoo Atoll, and Fuvamulah. He ruled from 1959 to 1963 and then moved with his family to Seychelles back in 1963 after the English intervened to dismantle the United States of Suvadheeb.
