Authorities have found the dead body of a young man who went snorkeling today near West Park Area of Male’.
Maldives National Defense Force MNDF said 24-year-old Sofwan Rasheed was reported missing at 4:36 pm in the evening today after his family failed to contact the young man.
MNDF said that the young man had gone snorkeling around 11:00 am today and that he went alone.
It said that MNDF Male’ Area coast guard had initiated a search for the missing snorkeler once his family made the report and MNDF divers as well as civilian divers had combed the area.
MNDF said one of the civilian divers had spotted Sofwan’s body in the ocean water.
MNDF also said that the body of the missing snorkeler has now been transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
