Maldives Transport and Contracting Company MTCC says it has commenced the construction of the passenger terminal and fire building for the Haa Alifu Hoarafushi airport development project.

The company said that it began the project on the 19th of this month.

MTCC said that the project worth MVR 13.8 million was awarded to the company by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation on 27th August 2020.

It said that the project is scheduled to be completed in 80 days.

The airport in Hoarafushi will open with a 1200 meters runway which would also be 35-meter-wide and have an 8635 square meter Apron and taxiway.

The airport would also include a 9473 square meter parking area with a 1718 square meter fire access path.

Earlier this year, the government had announced that the airport in Hoarafushi would be open for service in August of this year but all developmental project undertaken by the government has taken a hit due to the COVID-19 crisis.
