Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed has apologized for a tweet he had posted earlier today sending condolences to the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Abubakar upon the death of her mother which was later revealed as untrue.

Nasheed said via twitter that he had received misinformation regarding the Director General’s mother and said he apologized for the blunder from his part.

Nasheed went onto appreciate the hard work of the Director-General during such a public health crisis and said that he can only imagine how hard it must be for Maimoona to continue with her responsibilities while her mother was sick.

Nasheed wished Maimoon’s mother a speedy recovery.

He caught the media’s attention with his tweet about the death of the Director General’s mother. But Health Ministry was quick to deny the reports and said that the Speaker had been misinformed.

The Speaker and former President Nasheed is active on the social media platform with regular tweets on the affairs of the country and has over 234,000 followers on the social media platform.
