Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed has embarked on an informal trip to the UK today.
The Speaker had made a trip to the UK earlier this year on the 11th of March to visit his family residing in the UK.
Nasheed made that trip to celebrate his 26th wedding anniversary with his wife which fell on the 13th of March. He came back to the Maldives on the 15th of March.
He had returned at a time when authorities were testing those coming back from abroad for COVID-19 and after several Maldivians who returned back from the UK tested positive for the pandemic, the speaker was also tested for the illness.
HPA announced that Nasheed had tested negative for the illness on April 2nd of this year.
Under the current guidelines set by HPA, the speaker would have to home quarantine for 14 days and would only be released once he tests negative for the illness upon the completion of the 2-week quarantine.
