President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has voiced his support to under-fire Economic Minister Ismail Fayyaz.
In an interview with the online news outlet ‘Mihaaru’, President Solih said Minister Fayyaz has not done anything that warrants his dismissal from the post and that the Minister had his full trust.
According to the report, the President said that he would do everything in his power to defend Minister Fayyaz.
President Solih said Minister Fayyaz is one the most hard-working members on his cabinet and that the Minister prioritizes fulfilling the government’s pledges to the public made in the latest presidential election.
In his interview with ‘Mihaaru’, President Solih noted that he had not received any complaints against Minister Fayyaz but not everyone might be happy with the decision made by the state and insisted that the government would consider the interests of all before making a decision.
His comments came after reports noted that Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed is working to submit a motion of dismissal against the Economic Minister.
The Minister himself had insisted that he had not done anything that would warrant a dismissal from his post and had squashed reports that Speaker Nasheed is behind the dismissal rumors.
To pass a motion of dismissal against a cabinet Minister, the parliament would need the votes from 44 MPs and reports have said that the Speaker has not managed to get the votes for the dismissal.
