Authorities on Wednesday, 12 August, confirms discovery of a Covid-19 positive case from Lhaviyani atoll Naifaru.

The second wave of the global pandemic has proven to be faster in its spread with several islands currently reporting positive cases.

Earlier, Maldives government announced a second curfew on Greater Male' Region post the lockdown eases as positive cases saw staggering resurgence.

Meanwhile, Addu City on Tuesday reported their fourth case, third found from the city's Hithadhoo island. However, Abdulla Sodiq the city's mayor claims Covid-19 was not on a community outbreak in the city despite four positive cases.

According to HPA active Covid-19 cases have been discovered from Haa Alif atoll Kelaa, Filladhoo and Ihavandhoo, Haa Dhaal atoll Naavaidhoo, Raa atoll Hulhudhuffaaru, Baa atoll Kudarikilu and Kamadhoo, Lhaviyani atoll Hinnvaru, Kaafu atoll Maafushi, Vaavu atoll Fulidhoo along with Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.

With Wednesday's developments, Lhaviyani atoll Naifaru will enter into the list as well.

Maldives reports a total of 5,157 positive cases so far, inclusive of recoveries and active cases. So far 2,835 individuals have recovered while 20 individuals passed away due to Covid-19, with the most recent case reported on Wednesday morning.

Although HPA has not provided an official comment, sources claim the latest victim was getting treatment at Hulhumale' Medical Facility at the time of her demise, and was an elderly local woman.
