The second wave of Covid-19 in Maldives has taken a turn for the worse with a faster community spread, as Addu City reports its second positive case on Sunday.
According to health authorities, a second individual from Addu City Hithadhoo was discovered with Covid-19 virus. Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) claim the individual who tested positive had completed her lockdown-quarantine period.
HEOC identifies the second case from Addu City Hithadhoo as a 58 year old local woman, who was tested for the presence of Covid-19 on Sunday.
Health authorities placed the island under monitoring on Sunday following the previous case of an expatriate testing positive for the virus.
While the island is under monitoring, an officer of Maldives Police Service at Addu City Feydhoo tested positive for Covid-19 sometime on Saturday evening. The officer arrived in the city two days prior.
He was discovered with Covid-19 after the test results from a random sampling collected from Male' City came with positive results.
Authorities report conducting a contact-trace through which six officers of Maldives Police Service were identified to have come in close contact with the officer in question.
Meanwhile, Maldives reports a total of 5,041 positive cases out of which 2,804 individuals have recovered while 19 individuals (inclusive of expatriates) have passed away following complications due to Covid-19.
