The Prosecutor General of Maldives confirms the authority will be placing a formal request to put a travel ban for former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.

Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem on Tuesday confirmed to local media during a press conference, noting the authority was requsting for a travel ban on the ex-VP to restrict him from traveling outside of Maldives capital; Male' City.

Shameem further clarifies that the Prosecutor General's Office will be placing the formal request shortly - in the coming days - while he assures the court will heed their request.

Meanwhile the state prosecutor further claims he had previously urged Maldives Police Service to place a formal travel restriction on the former VP. Shameem also notes Adeeb had previously attempted to evade custody, adding the former VP holds previous criminal records as well.

On Tuesday's hearing of the respective trial, the prosecution placed heavy allegations on former Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham and the Assistant Commissioner of Police Riyaz.

Following court's decision of rescinding all seven charges against the ex-VP, he has been since released from captivity.
