A Maldivian family residing in Sri Lanka have been arrested by the country's local authorities.

The Ministery of Foreign Affairs Director of Communications Miuvan Mohamed speaking with 'The Press' confirmed the authority has received news regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the ministry's Director notes locals residing in foreign countries to adhere to the civil laws and regulations of their country of residence.

Moreover, sources confirm the Maldivian family consisted of five members and all five of them have been placed under custody of Lankan authorities.

Reports further claim the family members were illegal immigrants residing in the country.
