The Monday's, 22 June, parliament sitting has put on agenda to summon Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir for inquiries.
According to the Maldivian legislative body's administrative end, the minister is being summoned to question regarding one of the more popular mosques in Male' Cityl Al-Masjid-ul Bahaauddin.
The South-Machhangolhi constituency member Ahmed Haitham has placed formal request with the parliament to make inquiries with the minister regarding the issue. During the summoning, minister is expected to be questioned regarding the possible reopening of the mosque for congregational prayers.
Earlier, Minister of Islamic Affairs noted the mosque in question will be reopening post major renovations once the ban on communal prayers is lifted off.
The mosque was renovated by prominent construction magnate Mohamed Ali Janah's HRC. Initially the contractor aimed for full completion of the project before Ramadan in 2020, however due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Male' City in mid-April some of the works remained in pending.
According to the minister, the contractor has since completed the entire renovation project of the mosque.
The mosque, which is more locally famous as 'Maaveyo Miskiy/Mosque' was originally developed as a two-storey structure accommodating a total of 400 prayers at once.
However, after the complete renovation, the building has been elevated to hold a total of 7 storeys that will allow over 2,000 prayers at once.
