National Emergency Operations Center NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says 29 staff from the parliament has been asked to isolate themselves after an employee of the Parliamentary Secretariat tested positive for Covid-19.

Speaking to reporters via an online news conference, Mabrook said that after a staff working for the maintenance department of the Parliament Secretariat tested positive, authorities have now identified 29 staff from the parliament who might have met the individual at work.

Mabrook said all 29 staff has now been ordered to self-isolate as a further precautionary measure.

In a statement, the parliamentary secretariat had said earlier that after a staff working for its maintenance department tested positive for Covid-19, the parliament has been taking all necessary measures. This includes disinfecting the parliament building as well as conducting contact tracing for the employee that tested positive for Covid-19.

The parliament secretariat had said that it is working as per the guidelines set by authorities to further quell the Covid-19 global pandemic here in the Maldives.
