Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed says police have generated and delivered 21,653 permits in the last 12 hours as a measure of relaxing the lockdown implemented in Male’ Area.

In a tweet, Commissioner Hameed said that police have issued these permits to various individuals from 1927 business entities.

He said that this would allow 11,826 new individuals on the streets of the Greater Male’ Area to carry out economic activities.

The Greater Male Area has been under lockdown since the discovery of its first Covid-19 case back in April. Individuals and businesses with special permits from the police are only allowed on the streets as police enforce the lockdown regularly.

It has been fining and arresting individuals who have been violating the lockdown implemented in the capital city. Police said yesterday that a total of 6975 people have been fined for violating the lockdown regulations while a total of 384 individuals have been arrested for disobeying lockdown rules.

The government of Maldives had eased the lockdown measures late last month with police allowing three people from each household to go out for grocery shopping.
