National Emergency Operation Center NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says the government has provided temporary shelter for 90 individuals living in the capital Male’ amid the lockdown of the city due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Updating local media on the latest developments from the fight against the virus in the country, Mabrook said that the Gender Ministry is currently sheltering 90 homeless individuals.
Mabrook also said that the ministry has provided food packages to 380 individuals as many are left without income support during the lockdown of the capital city now into its second month.
The Ministry is working with various NGOs to provide these reliefs to the families that are desperate need for help during these trying times.
The Covid-19 global pandemic has left a massive hole in the country’s economy with most of its sectors brought to a halt amid the lockdown of its financial hub Male’ City.
The Government has introduced a special allowance as income support for those who lost their jobs during this crisis with each person receiving a stipend of MVR 5,000 per month from the government.
