National Emergency Operations Center NEOC says 137 frontline workers battling the Covid-19 pandemic in the Maldives have been infected with the highly contagious virus.

This was revealed in the presentation given by Health Protection Agency epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal.

The presentation showed that 137 frontline workers have tested positive for Covid-19 between 16th April and 12th May.

The slide also revealed that most frontline workers tested positive for Covid-19 on the 8th of May with 47 workers stricken with the virus that day alone. While 22 frontline workers tested positive for Covid-19 on the 29th of April, on the 10th of May some 15 front line workers tested positive for Covid-19.

The NEOC has stopped revealing the number of MNDF and Police officers tested positive for Covid-19 for security reasons and said these numbers would be updated as a total of all frontline workers.

Frontline workers include MNDF officers, Police officers as well as healthcare professionals, and other officials working in ports and airports.
