Maldives Police Service claim they have fined a total of 3,422 people for violating the lockdown regulations in Greater Male' Region.
The number of unauthorized movement outside the streets amid government imposed total lockdown have been surging in recent days.
Authorities confirm as of 10 May the number of offenders against the lockdown regulation from Male' City have reached 2,948 and 395 from Hulhumale' while only 79 were apprehended for violating the regulations at Vilimale'.
Police confirmed all lockdown offenders were fined according to state regulations.
Additionally the local law enforcement authority confirmed a total of 187 individuals have been arrested on serious and repetitive violations on the lockdown regulations. The arrested include 171 arrests from Male' City, 14 from Hulhumale' and just 2 from Vilimale'.
On Sunday, 10 May, 7 arrests were made for strict violations while 157 were fined for breaches. All 7 arrests were made at Male' City, while 132 out of the 157 fined were from the Maldives capital as well.
Additionally 20 persons from Hulhumale' and 5 person from Vilimale' were fined on Sunday.
The Greater Male' Region have been exercising strict lockdown measures since 15 April, after the very first positive case of Covid-19 was discovered from Male' City. The viral pandemic have been on a community outbreak ever since, with new cases surging every day.
