Health Protection Agency HPA says 54 percent of the confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country do not show any symptoms of the illness.

In a tweet to create awareness, HPA said anyone can get the virus and that anyone can spread it too. HPA said that some who are infected with the virus show no symptoms but infect others with the virus. It said that these infected individuals might return home and infects a person regarded as a high-risk contact, which includes elderly persons, and persons with chronic diseases.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the Maldives reached 785 with 41 new cases reported yesterday alone. HPA had said that 54 percent of the total cases do not show symptoms, which means 423 people, are asymptomatic in the Maldives.

While Male’ Area has been under lockdown since the 15th of April, the country’s second major City, Addu City was placed under full lockdown yesterday. The city was shut closed after a patient transferred from Addu City to Male’ was tested positive for Covid-19. The Equatorial Hospital in Addu said that the patient was asymptomatic to Covid-19.

HPA officials are now carrying out contact tracing of the individual with several airport staff and hospital staff identified as close contacts of the patient. Many have been placed under isolation as a precautionary measure.
