Parliamentarian and son of former Maldives President, Ghassan Maumoon has pleaded against politicizing issues amid intesifying economic tensions.
The Guraidhoo constituency lawmaker have requested against resorting to intimidation and influence at a time when the country's economic progress hangs in balance.
The lawmaker's statement is believed as a response to Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail's criticism against the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI).
Minister of Economic Development had criticized the tourism promotion association, claiming their harsh criticism amid persisting economic woes came as a 'low blow' at the government.
MATI had earlier, alleged the government excluded the association from discussions prior to the announcement of Covid-19 economic recovery plan.
"This is the time for compromise. Negotiation and renegotiation. Time to seek guidance from experts and industry. Not the time for petty politics and intimidation. The institutional experience/memory of MATI is vast."
The lawmaker tweeted as a response to the association locking horns with Maldives government.
While MATI alleged government excluded the association from discussions, Minister Fayyaz countered stating the association was invited and had attended for three distinct meetings held to discuss on the economic recovery plan.
