Maldives health authorities project a total of 1600 Covid-19 positive cases on 30 May 2020.

Authorities forecast the current community outbreak of the viral contagion will reach peak by the end of the current month.

Speaking during Thursday evening's press briefing at National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), Dr. Sheena Moosa claimed the current forecasts indicate visible surges in Covid-19 positive cases on 30 and 31 May.

She further noted this will be the expected peak following the 14-day lockdown duration.

Dr. Sheena Moosa further claimed an accurate assessment on the viral spread cannot be ascertained despite an ongoing lockdown. She explained the reason for this was due to insufficiency in real time data and information.

The medical professional further said accurate data on the disease spread is not identified due to ambiguity in the actual number of positive cases. She claimed this was due to lack of samples and tests made.

Dr. Sheena forecast positive cases of Covid-19 will be discovered in Maldives until September 2020. She had also speculated the viral disease may not diffuse in the country as its nature of spreading is still not identified.

According to forecasts made, Dr. Sheena reported an approximation of 34 patients will be hospitalized on expected peak days. She further speculated as many as 12 patients will require treatment at Intensive Care Units (ICUs).

She further suggested the patient number will rise to 6,804 should the peak prolong for a 14-day duration, adding 281 patients will be hospitalized. Dr. Sheena also speculated over 101 patients may require treatment at ICU.

The overall forecast on Maldives forecast a total of 77,000 infections, 13,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 patients in ICU treatment.

As of 07 May, health authorities confirm a total of 642 positive cases of Covid-19, with 618 active cases.
