Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) have voiced strong criticism at government for excluding them out of relief package discussions.
Maldives government initiated an economic recovery plan to profit relief for local businesses and individuals getting heavily impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The prominent tourism promotion organization lambasted government for downplaying the economic setbacks rising from stagnated tourism industry activities.
MATI argues stronger measures were already necessary to reduce noticeable damages to the industry, while it had warned of tourism industry businesses hitting bankruptcy.
The organization also criticized Maldives government for failing to respond adequately to the concerns raised in multiple discourse sessions over the damages and impacts on tourism industry.
Further criticism was drawn towards the government's set prerequisitves for eligible parties for the loan under the loan scheme exclusively announced for the tourism industry.
MATI said the placed conditions will bar several businesses from becoming applicable for the loan scheme - pitting many tourism related businesses to fend off for themselves amid growing economic woes.
