A local passed away on Tuesday, after the individual plummeted from a local coconut palm at the island of Raa atoll Madifushi.
Maldives Police Service confirmed a local male, aged 36 had died after the incident.
Local law enforcement confirm investigations were underway to ascertain the actual cause of death; while the incident was reported to them around 14:00hrs of Tuesday afternoon.
The victim had died while receiving medical treatment at Madifushi Health Center.
This is the first time an incident of such nature have been reported to local authorities in recent years.
Maldivians are known for their hiking or climbing skills, especially on to coconut palms to cut out tender coconuts for consumption.
Skilled toddy-men, often use home-made mechanisms to climb up cocnut palms to collect toddy.
