Authorities have confirmed 16 more individuals have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on their official Twitter handle updated the latest batch of positive cases.

The health agency confirmed 9 Maldivians, 6 Bangladeshis and 1 Sri Lankan were included in the new patients list.

With this the total number of positive cases in Maldives have increased to 573 while on Tueday a second death related to the Covid-19 virus was reported in Maldives.

Earlier on Tuesday, HPA in correspondence with Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) confirmed a 33 year old Bangladeshi national with tonic-clonic seizure, who earlier tested positive for the virus, had passed away.

At a press briefing, pulmonologist Dr Moosa Hussain confirmed the patient had suffered brain hemorrhaging.

The island nation is currently experiencing a community outbreak of the viral contagion with mounting positive cases reported each day.
