Health Protection Agency HPA confirms a 33-year-old Bangladeshi national has died in Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital IGMH today after the person was tested positive for Covid-19.
Briefing the media on this latest development, NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the Bangladeshi national was taken to the hospital after having a tonic-clonic seizure and tested positive for Covid-19 after a routine test by the hospital.
Also speaking at the briefing, Pulmonologist Dr. Moosa Hussain said the patient had suffered brain hemorrhaging and that a CT scan taken shortly after the patient was brought in confirmed the hemorrhaging. Dr. Moosa also said that the patient passed away while receive treatment and was on the ventilator when the patient died.
IGMH Dr. Mohamed Faishan said any other health issues in the patient might have caused the brain hemorrhaging and that there were no signs that it related to Covid-19. He said it could be concluded that the patient died from a brain hemorrhage after suffering a stroke.
Last night HPA had said the patient was taken to ER after having a tonic-clonic seizure. According to international health reports severe cases of Covid-19 have suffered such seizures.
Sources have confirmed to ‘The Press’ that the person who died worked at the kitchens of MNDF Headquarters Bandaara Koshi BK. Sources have also confirmed that MNDF have commenced disinfection of these areas following the patients death.
This is the second person that died after testing positive for Covid-19. Last week an 83-year-old local woman died of the highly contagious illness after the officials delayed testing her for the virus.
