Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 8 additional cases of Covid-19 in Maldives in today’s first update.
In a tweet, HPA said 5 locals and 3 Bangladeshis tested positive for the highly contagious virus in the Maldives today.
This takes the total number of positive cases to 527.
The total number of cases includes 183 Maldivian nationals and 344 foreigners. Most of the foreigners tested positive for Covid-19 in Maldives are Bangladeshi nationals with 268 from the country infected with the virus in the Maldives.
HPA has reported that 18 people have recovered from the virus in Maldives. The latest individual to recover from Covid-19 is a 35-year-old local woman who tested positive for the virus on the 20th of last month. HPA officials said although she has recovered from the virus, she would remain in isolation.
The Maldives recorded its first Covid-19 related death last week when an 83-year-old woman died from the illness in Male’ after the authorities failed to test her for the illness in a timely manner.
