The government of the United States donates USD 2 Million to the Maldives to help recover from its fight against global Pandemic Covid-19.

In its website the US State Department said USD 2 million in Economic Support Funding will support the expansion of social protection services led by local civil society organizations and assist them to advocate effectively for COVID-19 recovery policies.

The US state department also said this assistance would include technical support to the government, private sector, and financial institutions to support hard-hit businesses.

It highlighted that U.S. investments in Maldives include more than $30 million in total assistance since 2004.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid thanked the US government for its timely support.

In a tweet, Shahid said the Maldives needs such support and assistance from its partners to overcome this pandemic.

The Maldivian economy has suffered huge losses amid the Covid-19 global pandemic with the tourism sector brought to a grinding halt.

Government has announced relief packages to aid businesses and individuals most affected by the crisis.
