Managing Director of the largest state-owned enterprise, Hussain Amr made the declaration on his official Twitter handle.
The STO frontman assured his staff were dedicated to ensure catering for the requirements of the customers across Maldives; with growing demand for staple food with the arrival of Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
The sacred month, where Muslims abstain from consuming sustenance; both food and drinks from dawn until dusk; surprisingly hikes up the demand for food. Many households experiment, prepare and distribute among loved ones the various delicacies prepared to break their fast.
The specific rise in demand during the current year's Ramadan, over staple food comes due to the current circumstance in light of the COVID-19 pandemic restricting public movement extensively.
State have imposed strict regulations limiting citizens from going out of their homes, residences and tenements with exemptions made only for crucial needs. This in turn have challenged many in procuring food; further elevating the demand curve.
STO Managing Director in his tweet assured staple food will remain sufficient regardless of the dire circumstances projected on the public.
Island councils are contacted by the state-owned enterprise to confirm stock on staple food. STO confirms 58 islands have been contacted through their respective councils.
