Two cases of Covid-19 have been found in K. Thulusdhoo as authorties warned that the virus would move to the Atolls.
Sources have confirmed to ‘The Press’ that the two infected individuals are expatriate workers and they were found through contact tracing of previous positive cases from Male’.
Island sources have said that the two workers had their meals from a local house and Health Protection Agency was working to identify their contacts. Sources also said one Maldivian who had contact with the infected workers was now showing Covid-19 like symptoms.
The sources also confirmed that the two expat workers were still staying in the island and that they have not been moved to an isolation facility.
Male’ Area was placed under monitoring on the 15th of this month following its first community case of Covid-19 was reported. But several people had travelled to islands from Male’ before the lockdown was implemented and authorities believe some of these individuals may have been contacts of positive cases from Male’.
A Maldivian and a foreigner working for a construction company in Thulusdhoo travelled to Male’ on the 15th and were tested positive for Covid-19 on 21st of April.
HPA officials have been carrying out contact tracing for these cases and that samples have been taken from several people. Sources said these samples included those from the two individuals now tested positive for Covid-19 in the Island known for its local tourism.
