National Emergency Operations Center NEOC Consultant Dr. Sheena Moosa says around 100 individuals might now be carrying the Covid-19 virus here in the Maldives as authorities warned of bitter days to come.

Briefing the media on latest projections of Covid-19 in Maldives, Dr. Sheena said that around 60 to 100 individuals might now test positive for Covid-19 in the country.

Explaining the projections, Dr. Sheena said the team at NEOC projected a 75 percent compliance to understand how well the public responded to containment or how they followed the rules to contain the spread. She emphasized that social distancing played a massive role in the speed at which the illness spreads through the community.

Dr. Sheena said the Maldivian community now has an active spread of the Covid-19 virus and even if only 10 cases might have been discovered, 6 times more cases might be within the community.

She said around 100 individuals might now be carrying this highly contagious virus and that each person is now at risk of contracting the Covid-19 virus. Dr. Sheena said the high numbers revealed through contact tracing meant the seriousness of the spread is also greater.
