Maldives Police Services says in light of the current situation of Male’ regarding Covid-19, it will raise Police Alert status to level 2.

Speaking to the media, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said as Male’ City is currently under a 24hr lockdown because of the spread of Covid-19, Police Alert status now stands at Orange Level 2.

Commissioner Hameed also said that police officers working in the front line against Covid-19 global pandemic would not be allowed to go back to their families and that accommodation for these police officers have now been arranged.

Earlier today, authorities reported that a Maldivian living in Male with no recent travel history had tested positive for the virus. The individual who had no direct contact with a previously positive case was tested after seeking treatment from Male’ Flu clinic for Covid-19 like symptoms. Health Protection Agency have now confirmed that a second Maldivian living in Male’ have also tested positive for Covid-19 and that this individual was a direct contact of the case reported earlier today.

Twenty People have now tested positive for Covid-19 in Maldives and authorities have also confirmed the community spread of this infectious virus in the Maldives.
