Former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's advocate team have inquired for the reason of stagnancy in his appeal case.
The former Maldives statesman was imprisoned after finding guilty for charges of money laundering.
Maldives Criminal Court sentenced Yameen Abdul Gayoom with a five year imprisonment sentence and a fine of USD5 million.
The former president's Criminal Court verdict was appealed at Maldives High Court, which had its preliminary hearing a month after the appeal. However, the appellate court has not tabled further hearings for the case following the initial hearings stage.
Yameen Abdul Gayoom's advocate team and the opposition party itself have on several occasions raised concern over the delay in appellate hearings.
Former vice president Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, who spearheads the convicted former president's advocate team had on Tuesday, reiterated the authorities over the delay of appellate hearings.
The former Vice President had also questioned over correlation of the delay with the current condition in light of the viral pandemic.
"The parliament has not come to a halt, meetings between president and the cabinet continues," Dr Jameel implied over the possible excuse from judiciary for the apparent delay in hearings.
Meanwhile Maldives government have commenced probes on other alleged offences of the former President.
