The Government has scheduled a repatriation flight to India to bring home locals who travelled to India through national health scheme Aassandha as efforts to bring back Maldivians stranded abroad amid the Covid-19 crisis intensify.
Speaking to the media, Official spokesperson for Covid-19 related updates in Maldives; Mohamed Mabrouk Azeez said the flight scheduled for tomorrow would bring back 152 Maldivians stranded in India after travelling to the country for medicinal purposes.
He said the flight would bring back Maldivians from Cochi and Bangalore. He added that these would include patients who sought medical treatment in India and their guardians.
Mabrouk also said that government was planning to schedule a rescue flight to Bangladesh to bring back Maldivians stranded there. He said the government would confirm the date of the flight once the details fall into place.
Government of Maldives has so far facilitated repatriation flights to Sri Lanka, India and Malaysia.
