National Carrier Maldivian says its top management will take a 20 percent pay cut to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 crisis currently grappling the country.
Addressing the media today at Dharubaaruge spokesperson for Maldivian Moosa Waseem said a number of Island Aviation staff is currently working from home but the company has no intention of laying-off any of its staff.
He added that further cost cutting measures would be implemented in the future. Moosa said this would include a 20 percent pay cut for the top management of the company.
Moosa highlighted that the Covid-19 crisis will leave a huge impact on the transport sector and its businesses.
He said that Maldivian played a major role in boosting the tourism sector but with the number of tourist arrival declining the company will have to shoulder major losses.
With the Covid-19 crisis predicted to leave a huge dent in the country’s economy, major businesses are taking extreme cost cutting measures including laying off employees and enforcing non paid leaves.
