The Maldives parliament's Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has claimed the state revenue has depleted significantly and was in need of recovery.
The former president, who now chairs the island nation's parliament claimed the state fund was in need of policies to reduce unprecedented damages, and to make a recovery.
Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed spoke with local media where he addressed the recent sessions with lawmakers.
The parliament sessions held, opened discussion between parliamentarians on the possible approaches in realizing the Economic Recovery Plan of Maldives government.
Nasheed also attests the island nation was currently suffering a major economic setback in light of the rapidly spreading COVID-19 virus, due to which the country's tourism sector has come to a standstill.
Tourism sector is regarded as the main economic element for the island nation; which heavily depends on tourist arrivals.
Speaking about the recent parliamentary sessions, via web-conference, Nasheed highlighted on the prime focus in these discourse sessions.
"Many of our respected lawmakers believe Maldives is need of a paradigm shift in its economic recovery. To find productivity all over again and to seek a vision that will ensure we, as a country, do not become blighted" Nasheed commented
Meanwhile, Nasheed attests the parliament committees were currently engaged in discussions to seek new and feasible methods in ensuring economic recovery for Maldives.
Discussions were in place with leading experts to understand how the global economy will play out.
The now global viral pandemic has rendered several countries idle in their economic growth; Maldives included. Meanwhile, the world at large remains uncertain when the viral pandemic will be fully controlled and cured.
