Maldives Police Services says stern action will be taken against those disobeying Health Protection Agency HPA’s curfew order.
Speaking to the media, Superintend of Police Hussain Sameer said police would take actions against pedestrians and vehicles that violate the curfew order, which restricts any and all road traffic between 5pm to 8 pm effective Thursday.
Sameer said such violators would first be verbally advised and if the violation were repeated the individual would be fined by an amount of 1000 MRF.
He said those exempted from the curfew order would be issued a special sticker and that police would take action against those caught moving around without this sticker.
HPA said that several measures would be taken effective from 12:00pm, 2nd April in the Greater Male’ Region which includes Male’, Hulhumale and Villimale. HPA said these measures would be implemented between 5pm to 8 pm everyday and that these include banning of vehicles and individuals out on the streets and stopping of public transport services including bus and ferry services.
HPA also said outside of these hours, gathering of more than 3 people may not be allowed out in the public. HPA ordered these measures to prevent the further spread of Covid-19 global pandemic here in the Maldives.
