Government says it will provide a 3-month allowance to those made jobless by the Covid-19 crisis as the country’s economy is set to take a major hit.

Speaking to the media, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer said government have decided to provide an allowance to those who are rendered jobless because of the Covid-19 crisis and that this allowance would stretch for three months.

Minister said the government would start issuing the allowance this month.

Minister Ameer urged those who have faced redundancy amid the crisis to register at Jobs Center and said government needs a formal complaint mechanism to administer these financial reliefs.

Minister Ameer did not detail the exact amount of the allowance.

With the country brought to economic standstill in its fight against Covid-19, the government is enacting its Economic Recovery Plan to aid those most affected by the crisis.
